節分といえば、鰯、柊、豆、太巻き。鰯の頭を柊の枝に刺し、その悪臭をもって邪気を払うという風習は近世以降に広まったものだとか。
もっと昔からあったものかと思いましたが、意外や意外。
あまりやってる家って見たことありませんけどね。
豆は木火土金水の五行のうち、金の気を持ちます。
疫病等の災厄も金気に属するものと考えられていたため、豆はその災厄を被って「鬼は外」で外に放り出され、「福は内」で部屋に撒いた豆は、最終的に捨てられたり食べられたりして、これまた “退治” されてしまいます。
生豆ではなく炒り豆を使うのは、“金は火に剋される” という概念の元。
また、金を火によって剋することで、金に剋されるはずの木の気を助ける、つまり春になることを助けるという意味合いもあるそうです。
なかなか奥が深いですな。
太巻きは販売戦略から生まれたもののようです。
恵方を向き、無言で太巻きを丸かぶりすると、一年を健康で幸せに過ごせるというもの。
太巻きを鬼の金棒に見立てたとか、恵方を向いて大口を開けることで運気が流れ込むとか、まぁ色々と説があるわけですが、個人的には “縁を切らない” というのが気に入りました。
店に売ってるのは縁を切ってあるのが多いですが(笑)
